Head Tutor | Certified Natural Perfumer | NPA Ambassador to Brazil

Ane Walsh, author of recently published, Notas Da Perfumista, is one of the most respected voices in contemporary natural botanical perfumery. A scientist by training and an artist by nature, she blends academic rigour with deep sensory intuition—making her one of the few teachers in the world equally fluent in laboratory science and natural perfume creation.

Scientific Roots & Academic Foundation

Ane Walsh trained as a biologist at the University of São Paulo’s Institute of Biosciences, where she gained a solid grounding in research and laboratory methods. Early in her career she worked at the University of São Paulo’s Oceanographic Institute, developing a disciplined, evidence-based approach that continues to shape her perfume practice today.

Natural Artisan & Maker at Heart

Her connection to natural materials runs deep. For more than twenty years, Ane has practised natural skincare, herbalism, and traditional crafts. She began making all-natural soaps in the early 2000s and soon expanded into aromatherapy and botanical cosmetics. Living for several years on a rural farm in Minas Gerais, she mastered traditional homestead arts—bread and cheese making, beekeeping, and soap crafting—skills that deepened her respect for nature’s raw beauty and rhythms.

Certified Natural Perfumer

Ane Walsh was among the first graduates of the Natural Perfume Academy Diploma Course (class of 2008), training directly under renowned natural perfumer Justine Crane. This comprehensive program equipped her with expert knowledge of tincturing botanicals, blending natural essences, and composing refined, 100 % natural fragrances.

Translator & Course Developer

In 2010, Ane made history by translating the Academy’s official textbook—Justine Crane’s Natural Botanical Perfumery manual—into Portuguese, opening the doors of natural perfumery to Portuguese-speaking students for the first time. She also mentored the Academy’s first Portuguese-language Diploma course in 2009, helping nurture Brazil’s growing natural perfumery community.

Leadership at the Natural Perfume Academy

For more than sixteen years, Ane Walsh has been a cornerstone of the Natural Perfume Academy. Today she serves as Head Tutor of the Academy’s CPD-certified online diploma program, guiding students from over 40 countries. In 2018, she was formally named the Academy’s first Ambassador to Brazil in recognition of her pioneering role in linking the Academy to South America’s perfume renaissance.

Industry Pioneer in Brazil

Ane has been instrumental in bringing 100 % natural perfumery into Brazil’s broader fragrance industry. In partnership with the brand QUINARÍ, she helped create one of the nation’s first fully natural, vegan perfume lines, produced on an industrial scale—a landmark moment in Brazil’s green-beauty movement that cemented her reputation as a trailblazer among indie perfumers.

Artisanal Perfumer & Creative Visionary

From her studio in Minas Gerais, Ane crafts small-batch, artisanal perfumes that tell stories through scent. Her fragrances draw inspiration from Brazilian folklore, native flora, and aromatherapy traditions, blending scientific precision with poetic sensitivity. Described as a “brilliant and charismatic perfumer,” she focuses on the dreamy, delicate side of perfume-making—where each fragrance becomes a bridge between art, nature, and emotion.
