This interactive guide is a digital companion to the Natural Perfume Academy Vocabulary Wheel.
Use it to explore fragrance families, scent moods and natural aromatic materials. Choose a family, filter by mood, and discover botanicals that can help shape the character of your blend.
Choose a fragrance family to explore natural aromatic materials that can help create that impression. Then refine the list by mood, texture, or creative direction.
Start by choosing a family above. Suggested natural materials will appear here.
A note on fragrance families: perfume classification systems vary. In the Natural Perfume Academy Diploma Course, 11 traditional perfume families are introduced, while other perfumery schools and authors may use 12 or more.
This wheel uses a 13-family framework designed specifically as a vocabulary and sensory learning tool for natural perfumery. Rather than presenting a fixed industry taxonomy, it helps students connect scent families, descriptive language, mood and botanical materials.
The number 13 was chosen deliberately, echoing the rhythm of the 13 moons and honouring an older, botanical way of thinking about scent before modern synthetic materials reshaped perfumery.
This tool is a small taste of the language, structure and creative thinking used inside the Natural Perfume Academy’s courses.
Learn how to move beyond lists of materials and begin building thoughtful, well-structured botanical perfumes with confidence.
