Course Outline
The advanced natural botanical perfumery masterclasses and workshops are designed for individuals with some level of experience or knowledge in the field of aroma science. This could include perfumers, aromatherapists, cosmetic formulators, or individuals who have completed introductory perfumery courses. It may also be suited to those interested in natural and organic products or the use of botanical materials in fragrance.
The Objective of the Advanced Perfumers Workshops: To Focus on the Needs of the Natural Perfumer in Advancing Their Expertise in the Creation of Natural Perfume.
This series of workshops are designed to challenge experienced natural perfumers’ abilities and increase their potential to advance and refine their techniques through trials, experimentation, and research, and hone their skills of observation and evaluation of their finished works. We will guide students to reach a point of apotheosis in their natural perfumery work by focusing on artistry, intuition, precision, authenticity, and organisation. At the end of this series of workshops, the student will be well versed in all aspects of natural perfume creation.
Each Workshop will take one to four weeks to complete.
Each Workshop is an intensive, deep dive into the subject matter.

- The course is designed to be flexible and modular. Because it is web based it is accessible to those with web access who have basic computer skills.
- All modules are mandatory.

The overall aim of the advanced masterclass and workshops in natural botanical perfumery is to provide participants with a deeper understanding and knowledge of the art and science of creating fragrances using natural plant-based ingredients.
The course is comprised of five Workshop Sections as follows:
Workshop Section #1 – Organising the Workbench
Organization and management of perfume-making materials and equipment.
Workshop Section #2 – Menstruum Selection, Evaluation, & Dilution
This includes the selection and evaluation of alcohol and oil-based menstruums, dilution instructions, and the creation of material and kit evaluations. Additionally, the piece provides valuable guidelines on evaluation-monographs and features a Champaka Concrete dilution.
Workshop Section #3 – Creating Extracts & Distillations
Exploring plant extracts in depth, such as tinctures, pomades and distillates. Learn how to extract the essence of plants and deepen your understanding of natural botanical perfumery.
Workshop Section #4 – Creating Accords Master Classes

Workshop Section #5 – Creating Perfume Master Classes
Perfume Creation I and Perfume Creation II
Completing all the workshops and exercises are mandatory to the successful completion of course and receipt of a certificate from NPA and Justine Crane.
Reading lists, glossaries and other resources are provided to facilitate learning.
The strict pre-requisites for this series of workshops are:
Must have graduated from a CPD Certified Diploma Perfume Course at the Natural Perfume Academy
or
Present evidence of proven past study of natural perfumery with a total duration of experience of two years or more, this can include:
A certificate of completion from another perfume course, natural or otherwise
A verifiable history of posting questions and experimentation results on social media – must be of at least two years in duration
A website or other online outlet, with a lifespan of one or more years, from which you have sold natural perfumes

Must be in possession of basic natural perfumers’ tools and raw materials prior to the start of the workshops.
The course comprises 5 Sections and 19 workshops.
The course syllabus includes organizing the workbench, cataloguing raw materials, and organizing perfumers tools. It also covers menstruum selection, evaluation, and dilution using alcohol-based and oil-based menstruums. Creating extracts and distillations is also included. Additionally, the course covers creating accords and perfumes through master classes.

Justine Crane
Justine Crane is an accomplished natural perfumer with over 25 years of experience and co-founder of NPA. She is the author of “Perfumaria Botânica,” published in Brazil and Portugal. Justine founded Sierra Soapourri in 1997, followed by Delicia Skincare in 2005, deepening her passion for natural perfumery. As the developer and instructor of the Natural Perfume Academy’s English language course, and owner of The Scented Djinn Parfum Apothecary & Thurificorum, Justine has authored two books in the “Working the Bench” series. Her inspirations range from her grandmother’s green witchcraft to the exotic aromatics she sources. Justine promotes an inclusive, supportive, and community-driven approach to teaching natural perfumery.
